September 30 - the Feast Day of Saint Jerome
Saint Jerome (c.342-420 AD)
A
fourth-century scholar, Jerome was gradually drawn to Christianity, then became
a great theologian, apologist, and above all, biblical scholar. His faithful scholarly work has blessed generations of
Christians with the chance to encounter the Word of God through the biblical
text.

National Grandparents Day
Though not widely celebrated, today is National Grandparents Day. A resolution passed by Congress and signed into law in 1978 states that the day’s purpose is “to honor grandparents, to give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children’s children, and to help children become aware of strength, information, and guidance older people can offer.”

August 27 - The Feast Day of Saint Monica
Born a Christian in North
Africa, Monica married and bore three children. Through her example, her husband,
Patricius, became a Christian, and she prayed for the conversion of her son
Augustine, who had abandoned his Christian faith for Manichaeism. When he went
to Italy, Monica met him in Milan, where he had met Bishop Ambrose and been
baptized. She died during their return trip to Africa, saying all her hopes had
been fulfilled. May we also never give up encouraging the spiritual
journeys of those we love.
