September 30 - the Feast Day of Saint Jerome

Saint Jerome (c.342-420 AD)

A fourth-century scholar, Jerome was gradually drawn to Christianity, then became a great theologian, apologist, and above all, biblical scholar. His faithful scholarly work has blessed generations of Christians with the chance to encounter the Word of God through the biblical text.

He helped revise the Latin Bible (Vulgate), directed the Roman College, supervised the Vatican library, and was the pope's theologian. Appointed cardinal and archbishop of Capua, he was greatly loved as a pastor.

National Grandparents Day

Though not widely celebrated, today is National Grandparents Day. A resolution passed by Congress and signed into law in 1978 states that the day’s purpose is “to honor grandparents, to give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children’s children, and to help children become aware of strength, information, and guidance older people can offer.”
